Nine participants, Marie-Fabienne Aymon, Cathryn Boch, Judith Espinas, Matthieu Gounelle, Olivia Lefebvre, Jacky Maglia, Hisako Omori, Alexandra Roussopoulos, Régis Sénèque, are invited to Spetses (Aegean sea, Greece) from May 25th to June 9th 2014 for this first Art Residency – NISSI 14 – at Spiti Roussopoulos.
Artists with very diverse practices get together to work intensively and freely, exchange their views and live together. Sculpture, painting, installation, video, photography and writing intersect and feed one another. While participants do not have an individual workshop, they have access to a large diversity of spaces: the house, the garden, the village, the beach and the whole island can become workplaces.
The materials necessary to their practice can be found at local stores and in the natural environment. This open-air practice is carried out within a common space and the dialogues that emerge during this ongoing process are an essential part of the project.
This informal exhibition is an opportunity to open the residency to the islanders and to share the fruits of these creative days. It is also the occasion to invite Leda Papaconstantinou, a visual artist who lives and works in Spetses, to join the exchange.
The works are displayed in Spiti Roussopoulos and in an abandoned construction. Beyond their current presentation, the works will keep evolving into new forms which will extend the creations of the 2014 residency.
